About Me
At the time of attempting this amazing trek I will be 62 and semi-retired, my wife Sue and I have 2 lovely daughters, Lauren and Nicole, son in-law Mark and now our beautiful Grand Daughter Harriet Frances. 😊
Whilst semi-retired, I am very fortunate to work casually at 2 high profile sporting venues here in Adelaide. I continue to work to support my various Hobbies (Tramping) and Sport (Ice Hockey and Inline Hockey).
I have spent most of my life looking to the next challenge / adventure in family, career, sport and travel, I can’t remember not ever having that next challenge, finishing one and then looking to the next. I guess this is something similar to my parents who continually moved around the world, Great Britain, Australia and Canada.
As I am writing this Blog well in advance of my start date I am making some assumptions here as far as my fears go.
Fears
Getting Lost
Getting Injured
What happens when I finish?
What if I don’t finish!
I noticed in the Trail notes that there is an exit at approximately 1 hour into 90 Mile Beach, surely not?
The mixed emotions that I have no doubt will surface along the way, the excitement at the start and whatever happens at the end.
Things I am looking forward to
That the only things I have to do each day is eat, walk and sleep
Hopefully meeting up with other like-minded people from around the world
The solitude
Being in the bush, mountains, beaches Cities, and Towns of New Zealand
The people
Taking the time to enjoy the experience – (not my usual habit of going all out to get to the next destination as quickly as possible)
Taking the time each day to share my experience through this Blog with both my family and you the readers, yes, I am the proverbial old dog and am going to learn some new tricks.
