About Me

At the time of attempting this amazing trek I will be 62 and semi-retired, my wife Sue and I have 2 lovely daughters, Lauren and Nicole, son in-law Mark and now our beautiful Grand Daughter Harriet Frances. 😊

Whilst semi-retired, I am very fortunate to work casually at 2 high profile sporting venues here in Adelaide. I continue to work to support my various Hobbies (Tramping) and Sport (Ice Hockey and Inline Hockey).

I have spent most of my life looking to the next challenge / adventure in family, career, sport and travel, I can’t remember not ever having that next challenge, finishing one and then looking to the next. I guess this is something similar to my parents who continually moved around the world, Great Britain, Australia and Canada.

As I am writing this Blog well in advance of my start date I am making some assumptions here as far as my fears go.

Fears

  • Getting Lost

  • Getting Injured

  • What happens when I finish?

  • What if I don’t finish!

    • I noticed in the Trail notes that there is an exit at approximately 1 hour into 90 Mile Beach, surely not?

  • The mixed emotions that I have no doubt will surface along the way, the excitement at the start and whatever happens at the end.

Things I am looking forward to

  • That the only things I have to do each day is eat, walk and sleep

  • Hopefully meeting up with other like-minded people from around the world

  • The solitude

  • Being in the bush, mountains, beaches Cities, and Towns of New Zealand

  • The people

  • Taking the time to enjoy the experience – (not my usual habit of going all out to get to the next destination as quickly as possible)

  • Taking the time each day to share my experience through this Blog with both my family and you the readers, yes, I am the proverbial old dog and am going to learn some new tricks.
