June 2022

Betty does enjoy some attention!

25 June 2022 - Progress and Thoughts

At the risk of stating the obvious, Winter continues OMG, again a number of mornings out in the dark when I can’t see 3 feet in front of myself even with a headlamp. I am fortunate to have the company of our 12 month old Bordoodle (Betty) she loves the exercise

A busy month outside of Te ARAROA preparation. I travelled to Melbourne on the Queen’s Birthday long weekend for an Ice Hockey Tournament it came with an added bonus of a case of Covid – 19. here in south Australia that means 7 days isolation

Start Date: My start date remains the 07th  October, most of my preparation is complete now.

a.       Flight to Auckland

b.       Accommodation in Auckland

c.       Bus to Kaitaia

d.       Accommodation in Kaitaia

All that remains is to get from Kaitaia to Cape Reinga on the 7th

 Progress:

·         Web Site: Pages Published

o   Shelter

o   USB Air Pump

·         Facebook Pages that will be used

o   Te ARAROA 2022-23 (493 members)

o   Te ARAROA Trail angels

· Training:

o   Grounds used – 4

o   Kilometres – 28.7 plus, I should get a couple more hikes in between now and the end of the month

 Thoughts:

With the Covid isolation I have plenty of time to think about the challenges ahead. I am confident in my preparation, Equipment, Bookings, Navigation etc. My mind now turns to the Terrain, in particular the mud and all of the issues that come with it. I did get some great advice from another Hiker, just get to the Cape and with the right preparation everything else will fall into place.

The Excitement builds !
