Gas and Cooking Items
Hey Team, sorry about the rubbish bin. I was letting the gas out from the cylinder Iin preparation for this Blog
In this edition, Gas and Cooking.
I have seen a lot of questions about gas and stoves.
- What Stove should I use
- How much gas will I use
Well here goes!
Firstly, my intentions are to cook twice a day, Breakfast and Dinner with a cold top up between 10:00 & 11:00 each day whilst walking.
- Breakfast will be Oats and a cup of Tea
- Top up something like Mountain bread, Vegemite and Cheese, and
- Dinner will be a dehydrated meal and a cup of Tea.
To break up the monotony I will also have some Scroggin in one of my pouches
For Cooking I will be using the following items:
- MSR Pocket Rocket - Be considerate when using this little beauty it is very efficient when in use, however it can make a lot of noise

- MSR Gas where available - I am using the 374gm canister, this is when full. 150gms when it is empty.
- I use on average 5gs per 250 - 300 mils of water
- Allowing for some cold weather etc. this will give me 20 Days gas per cylinder.

- Toaks (Light) Titanium Mug 500ml - Very light weight and has the mils measurements on the inside

- Sea to Summit (X MUG) collapsible - For cups of Tea, it also has the mils measurements on the inside

- In addition to these items, I have the following items; - Stabilizing Stand that goes on the bottom of the Gas Cylinder
- A Magneto to light the stove
- A Spork for eating

Put it all together and it fits inside one small stuff sack.
P.S. Yes, you can see our Bordoodle (Betty) in the bottom Left of this picture
