Note: An Adventure put on hold

This picture was taken at my house as I was drying my tent out one last time before it gets packed away.

The picture above was taken a couple of months ago now and whilst I have continued to hike locally I was very lucky to get into a Podiatrist very quickly, my initial appointment was January 2023. So whilst the Doctor was very nice and was able to diagnose my issue, a Corn, on the inside of my left small Toe and he was able to carve away most of it. The down side is that he will need to review it in 8 weeks to see if both the swelling and the bruising has gone down, so as I suspected the TA for this season is over.

Now that Christmas 2022 is over I am finding it very difficult not to think about my time on the Te ARAROA and the possibility of resuming this adventure in late 2023. I initially thought that 30 days on Te ARAROA would not have a lasting impact on me however I have found what I am now missing is both:

  • The clarity of thought that comes with the removal of all of the day to day mundane stuff, I am not referring to the important things like family and friends. It’s hard to explain however it is those daily administrative items that you think about continually throughout the day i.e going to work, what’s for dinner, paying the bills, and watching the news once these are removed you end up with wake up, pack up, hike, unpack, sleep repeat.

  • Then there are the people, both the hikers and the locals, as soon as you put a pack on and look a little scruffy everybody wants to talk with you about Te ARAROA in general and how you are going personally.

To move pass this I continue to hike locally and plan for a restart sometime in the future, I have put together a plan for both 2023 & 2024 the year depends on a number of factors that will become clearer throughout 2023.

I will be putting together a monthly update that will include what I have been up to and will include:

  • Hiking/Tramping

  • Equipment changes

  • Lessons learnt in 2022,

  • As well as how my plans for a re start are progressing.

I would like to thank everybody for their support and will not be offended if you un subscribe to my web page even 12 months can be a long time to wait.
