Day 0.4 Auckland (CBD) to Kaitaia

Distance Walked: Not a lot of walking today, just 2 Buses to get to Kaitaia.

Interesting Facts:

Today was all about getting to Kaitaia so I was out the door at 0630

That is the Bus at the top of this lane.

This is Ondrej from the Czechia Republic, just one of the many Trampers on the Bus today.

I know that most of you would have seen the inside of a bus before, no excuses this is the inside of my first Bus today. I promise I won’t show you the inside of the second Bus.

I thought the I would take a picture at 11 o’clock each day no matter what the view is so here is todays picture. Not much I could do with this picture as we were on the move.

We stopped at a lot of road works today, some were rock slip maintenance and others were road up grades, these fellows were not bothered by the line of parked vehicles waiting for the green light.

This Helicopter was snapped at quant seaside town call Paihia, I think it is part of the Bay of Islands District.

The iSite at Kaitaia, the Bus drops you of here. This is a Trampers first opportunity to sign into the Intentions Books located inside. The DOC uses these as a guide should an individual become geographically embarrassed.

We stumbled across this fellow in Kaitaia, I guess the artist was trying to demonstrate The Kiwi dominance in World Rugby.

So to continue the tradition that I started just yesterday, if you look closely at the key in the door (No. 7) you will see the “Hand”

We spent upwards of 8 hours on the Buses today, the good thing is that we travelled through a part of New Zealand I haven’t seen before.

The one thing I hadn’t organised was the method of transport up to Cape Reinga. A fellow tramper said, some time ago, just get to Kaitaia and the rest will fall into place.

On the Busses today there were upwards of 12 Hikers and by the end of the trip to Kaitaia we all had found a way to get to the Cape, mainly shuttles.
