Day 19 to Whananaki to Ngunguru

Distance Walked: 25Km

Date 24 Oct 2022

Hitched 36Km

Trail Covered: 350Km

Weather: Bright and sunny

Note: Road walking and a lot of hill climbing.

This is the longest footbridge in the Southern Hemisphere.

The view from the other side, we were supposed to go to the right however due to the tide we were forced, yes, back onto the road.

The views started early today.

The view out towards Sandy Bay.

A lot of these beaches are private, we spoke to an American couple who purchased their part of paradise 10 years ago, they would not reveal the cost.

Another great view. In this picture you can see what appears to be sheep tracks across the hill on the right. I asked a local what they were and I am reliably told that they were actually caused by both Earthquake and Volcanic activity over hundreds of years. You can see these formations across the North.

.

Todays 11 o’clock picture, this is our 10km break. On the QT it would have made a great freedom camp site.

How easy is it for the Postman, 27 Post Boxes in all.

The views just keep on rolling.

So today wasn’t exactly Road walking, again some shade gravel road with some views thrown in..

The Hand found a nice place to rest.

With all of the road walking that we are doing, we are more or less forced into the local towns and then into local accomodation like todays B & B, some of us are couch surfing and others act like beggars on the street looking for a spot to camp..

Good Night
